Temple finds series - Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi temple, Karnataka, India

Dedicated to the goddess Mahalakshmi, who is revered as the goddess of wealth and prosperity, the temple is famous for its unique legend and the miraculous transformation of the goddess's idol.

Legend has it that a cowherd named Siddappa, while grazing his cows near the village of Goravanahalli, found an ancient idol of Goddess Mahalakshmi buried in the ground. He uncovered the idol and installed it in a makeshift shrine. Siddappa, who had a deep devotion to the goddess, started worshipping her regularly.

Over time, the goddess became renowned for her miraculous powers, and people from far and wide flocked to the temple to seek her blessings. As the goddess's popularity grew, the villagers decided to construct a proper temple around the idol, which stands proudly to this day.

What sets this temple apart is the unique nature of the goddess's idol. Unlike the traditional stone or metal images, the idol here is made of clay. It is believed that the goddess transforms her form to clay during the day and reverts to stone at night. This extraordinary phenomenon has captivated devotees and added to the temple's allure.

With its captivating legend and the goddess's extraordinary idol, the temple stands as a place of profound spiritual significance and continues to draw pilgrims in search of the benevolent blessings of Goddess Mahalakshmi.
