Legend of the Thamirabarani River: During the wedding of Shiva and Parvati, Adi Parasakti presented them with a garland. Shiva later entrusted it to sage Agastya, whereupon it magically transformed into the beautiful maiden Tamiraparani, adorned with a copper-colored radiance. Subsequently, Agastya embarked on a journey southward, accompanied by Tamiraparani and his wife, Lopamudra, eventually arriving at Malaya Parvata. There, Malayeswara welcomed Tamiraparani as his own daughter.
At Sripuram, the divine abode of Adi Parasakti, the goddess, bathed Tamiraparani in sacred waters and orchestrated her union with her beloved, Samudra Raja, on the auspicious day of Thai Poosam. Following this divine union, Tamiraparani transformed into the mighty river we know today!
